Burgers Meet Tex-Mex at Chris Madrid’s San Antonio

I’m a Texas girl through and through, and when you’ve lived in this great state as long as I have, you think you’ve seen (and eaten) it all.

Or at least I thought I had until our 3rd Annual Sister Site Conference in San Antonio when Alamo City Moms Blog invited us to get to know her town through a little burger joint called Chris Madrid’s

From the outside, if you didn’t know who or what Chris Madrid’s is, the restaurant might appear like a “dive” or local hangout, but once you walk in, you’re immersed in a cultural experience and true Tex-Mex hospitality!

Not Your Average Tex-Mex

As you sit down to order, don’t let the frozen margaritas fool you. This is no ordinary Tex-Mex restaurant.

Chris Madrid’s began in 1977 as Chris Madrid’s Tacos and Burgers in the historic Beacon Hill neighborhood of San Antonio, Texas. By the late 1990’s their legendary menu had become a fixture in the community, and was serving customers from around the world!

So what makes Chris Madrid’s menu so unique? Burgers!

They’ve taken the same quality ingredients you love about Tex-Mex and turned it into a combination of juicy burgers!

When in a new place, I tend to lean towards the most popular item on the menu. Usually this requires me to ask the server to make a recommendation, but at Chris Madrid’s the choice is obvious… it’s even highlighted on the menu.

Cheddar Cheezy Everyone’s Favorite

The Cheddar Cheezy is a freshly prepared beef patty with melted cheddar cheese, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles. It’s obviously why it’s everyone’s favorite! Then, you’ll be given two opinions when it comes to size: Regular (1/4 lb) or Macho (1/2 lb). I took the easy road and went with the regular.

Other specialty burgers include the Tostada Burger, a freshly prepared beef patty smothered in homemade refried beans, chips, onions, and melted cheddar cheese. Topped with freshly made salsa. And if you wanted something with a little kick, there’s always the Flaming Jalapeno Cheddar; which includes jalapeno slices on top of the melted cheddar cheese and beef patty.

The burgers were fresh, flavorful, and delicious!

While Chris Madrid’s is most known for their quality burgers, if you’re feeling the need for traditional Tex-Mex, they have you covered. You can enjoy a few of their homemade dishes like chips & salas, nachos and chalupas.

But of course, whatever you choose to order, make sure to wash it all down with a traditional or mango Margarita from the bar!

Honoring the Legacy

While THE Chris Madrid passed away only a few years ago, it’s obvious his legacy continues in his historic San Antonio restaurant. The servers and staff were warm and friendly to our team and everyone around. The atmosphere was family-friendly, fun, and inviting.

We can’t thank Chris Madrid’s enough for opening up a few tables for our City Moms Blog team and helping us feel a part of your family while we were away from ours.

If you find yourself in the San Antonio area, be sure to make Chris Madrid’s a food stop on your itinerary!
